Suspension Checks Are Important
A suspension system can fall out of alignment through normal wear and tear, from hitting a pothole or curb at a high speed, or from an accident. It should be checked at least once a year or every 15,000 miles, or during an alignment check, so you can avoid creating unnecessary problems. If your system is really in poor condition, you run the risk of not being able to control and steer your vehicle properly.
How Can I Tell If My Suspension System Needs To Be Adjusted Or Repaired?
Some common signs that your system may have some problems include:
- Pulling to one side while driving – you may need to check the tire pressure, your tire wear, the alignment, the tie rods, and steering rack and the brake caliper
- Feeling every bump in the road – your shock absorbers may need to be checked
- One corner of the car seems lower than the other three corners – your shocks and springs may need to be checked
- Difficulty with steering – you may need to check your fluids, steering belt, pump, rack, or arm bushings
- Momentum makes your car nose dive down (when braking), lean back (during acceleration) or roll (when cornering) – your shocks or struts may need to be replaced
